WARNING: FAKE WALBRO PUMPS IN CIRCULATION + VIDEO COMPARISON

I CAN CONFIRM GENUINE WALBRO PUMPS ARE AVAILABLE THROUGH EBAY ID "UDDOG06" WHO GETS THEM PERSONALLY SENT OVER TO AUSTRALIA FROM THE U.S. IF YOU WANT TO BUY ONE FOR YOUR MITSUBISHI EVO/LANCER, REQUEST MODEL GSS342 AND INSTALLATION KIT 400-847. MEEK.COM.AU ALSO SELLS GENUINE WALBRO FUEL PUMPS AND THEY SHOULD LOOK LIKE THE PICTURE BELOW.
NOTE: MITSUBISHI INSTALLATION KIT NUMBER 400-847 IS PRINTED ON THE BAG AND DOES NOT COME WITH A RUBBER HOSE (FAKE WALBRO PACKETS DO). PLUS ALL WALBRO FUEL PUMPS ARE COATED IN A THIN FILM OF OIL FROM THE FACTORY AS THEY ARE ALL TESTED UNDER STRINGENT QUALITY CONTROL PROCEDURES BEFORE BEING PACKAGED AND SOLD :D

NOW WITH VIDEO COMPARISION HERE TO HELP YOU OUT EVEN MORE:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7102yaOA2jk . The first shiny pump in the Youtube video is a genuine Walbro, the second pump tested is the fake, then the first pump is tested again. Notice the distinctive difference in sound between the two pumps. The Walbro actually sounds like it pumps whilst the fake sounds like some cheap toy drill you buy at a $2 shop! Sorry about the video quality as it was at night in the driveway. The most important part was captured though... the sound! :D

OK boys, I know some of you actually went out and bought Walbro Fuel pumps from EBay or other sources and just letting you know that you could have a FAKE.

What I have found out recently is that these fake Walbro pumps have been in circulation for over 12 months and are cheap Chinese fakes that are very poor quality, can be noiser than the real Walbro, wont hold fuel pressure and dont flow anywhere near as much!!! [seems like a lot of cheap Chinese fake crap is about lately - wierd thing is that there is a Walbro plant in China that I am unsure if it is associated with Walbro USA or not, but we could be experiencing bad quality control or 2nd rate surplus pumps being sold unbranded].

READ THIS:
http://fuel-pumps.net/walbro-forgeries.html

When I bought mine a couple of years ago it had the Walbro stamping on the side of it and product number, but when Mik-e got his it was just plain looking with no markings [links above prove that even the fakes have markings just like the real deal now!!]. When we called the guy who sold it to him to confirm if it was the genuine article he said that it was the newer model and that they didnt have the stamping  . This could be the reason why Mik-e has been having fuel delivery problems in his car as his fuel pump works intermittently (sometimes it works properly, sometimes it doesnt) !!!!! Those who came to Newcastle Autosalon would remember that his car wouldnt start up because it wasnt getting fuel. Once the fuel pump was changed to a genuine Walbro item he has never had a problem since! :)

REMEMBER: Walbro fuel pumps are car specific. The GSS342 models are as follows:
Installation Kit 400-791 (Subaru WRX or STI 02-05)
Installation Kit 400-847 (EVO 1 2 3 or 8; Lancer 1.8 Turbo CC 4WD 92-96; Eclipse 95-98 )
Installation Kit 400-846 (Civic 92-00 or Integra 94-01)
Installation Kit 400-765 (Supra 94-98 )
Installation Kit 400-826 (Accord 94-97)
Installation Kit 400-865 (Prelude 97-01)

Examples of some back up proof that you will find in a few forums around the traps:

From what I've experienced and feedback I've had from other car forums is that the copies dont flow anywhere near as much and are of inferior quality. Some Ive heard are downright noisy and as hell making whistle and drill-like sounds that dont sound anything like the normal Walbro 'whirring' sound we've been acustomed to over the years. If these things have been reverse engineered they were done very poorly.
If I were you guys, if I had purchased what was presumably a Walbro fuel pump lately I'd be double checking! If it doesnt make the notorious 'Walbro whirr" I'd be taking it out immediately and double checking it!! Its simply not worth risking your engine running lean and having to spend thousands of $$ for a rebuild, all over a $130 part

I love how they recognise the risk, but can easily bribe officials to look the other way. Incredible.

So rob which ebay seller was the one that mik-e purchased his fake walbro from, just so we all know. The link below is someone selling on ebay, he writes its genuine or money back guarantee. Let us know if its the same seller that mik-e bought it from.

Yeah, paying off officials in bribes in case they got busted. The hide of them eh? They even copied the PATENT NUMBER on the original Walbro onto the fakes!! bahahahaha

What totally pisses me off is that the global automotive market has had an enormous influx of cheap Chinese copies of just about everything hit the streets and we're all guilty of promoting it's growth as an industry - even if its black market. Businesses jump on the quick buck opportunity and consumers buy stuff because it looks like the real deal and the simple fact that it's 'cheap' is the deal clencher. Well like a lot of the Chinese stuff I've seen sold on EBay and the likes the quality sucks!!! basically because their quality controls are non-existent or as in the emails to the company above, they pay off officials to look the other way. We talk about illegal Chinese sweat shops all over Australia, well imagine all the illegal production going on actually inside China!! I bet there's quite a few companies making and selling the products that arent even legit bisinesses so there's no one to hold accountable (if there was, they can pay someone off to look the other way anyway  )

"Genuine Walbro GSS 342 , made in the USA with 14 day money back satisfaction guarantee and a 12 month warranty.

This item includes the intank performance pump (500 HP 255 Lt/Hr) and also includes the fitting kit as displayed.

All items express shipped - most metro next day (from payment) and WA and regional 2 days."

doesnt look like a hose in that pic and if it ais a fake maybe as soon as you tried to fit it the warrentee became void

I PURCHASED ANOTHER WALBRO PUMP FROM ANOTHER SUPPLIER AND RECEIVED IT TODAY - 20/10/06
IT IS NOT A GENUINE WALBRO FUEL PUMP, NOR IS IT THE SAME ITEM AS THE ONE THAT WAS PICTURED IN THE EBAY AUCTION!!!!

THIS ONE HAS A ROUGH SURFACE, IS DULL GREY IN COLOUR (AS PICTURED BELOW) AND HAS A DIFFERENT FILTER ON IT. IT ALSO CAME WITH FRENCH INSTRUCTIONS!!! - A DEFINITE FAKE - IM ASKING FOR A REFUND!!!

Image

It was sold by a registered company in Australia called TUFFCARPARTS who provided a Tax Invoice and Warranty. But let me assure everybody that once Branko, Managing Director of Tuffparts found out about this today he said he will offer a full money back refund and will contact his supplier immediately - he knew the unbranded ones were fake but didnt know that the market was now flooding with fake Walbro branded ones too!!! Full credit to Branko for exceptional customer service and acting on it immediately! The more people that become aware of the fakes = the less that will get sold = a win for car enthusiasts everywhere![/b]!!!

Yeah these are the stock Mitsu specs:
evo 1 fuel pump capacity:80 l/h
evo 2-3 fuel pump capacity:100l/h
evo 4 fuel pump capacity:120l/h
evo 5-6 fuel pump capacity:150l/h
gsr = ??? probably 80l/h or less...

Most Mitsubishi Lancer/GSR/EVO/VR4 guys just get the Walbro GSS-342 model as its good value for money and flows plenty for most applications

Here's a pic I found on my computer of a Walbro GSS342 installed in an EVO/GSR cradle from a while back. It does actually show that the Walbro is indeed shiny compared to the fakes that are dull.
