Yeah Mikey's was non genuine too. At the time of delivery no one had raised any alarm bells about the fakes flooding the market so we were none the wiser just like everybody else. I remember when it turned up I was questioning its appearance as it didnt look like my old Walbro. The sound of it didnt seem quite right either which raised the eyebrow a bit too. Still, we fitted it into his turbo coupe. A few days later the damn thing would work intermittently whenever it wanted to! I remember one day he drove to my place and parked the car. 2 minutes later he tries restarting it and it wouldnt kick over. I checked the fuel rail for fuel but nothing came out. I changed the fuel pump relay but it still wouldnt flow any fuel. hmmmm... must be the pump!. So we left it there for an hour or so and we came back later to try kicking it over again. To our surprise it kicked over and the engine was running. Michael drove it home again.

He noticed it had intermittent problems whenever the car/pump was warm, so you could imagine him having to leave the engine running for short trips at a time! Whenever he turned the car off the pump wouldnt work until it was stone cold again  When we got our hands on a genuine Walbro we compared the two pumps alongside eachother and thats when it 'clicked' - A FAKEY!!! Side by side you could see the differences and the sound diference between the two pumps was like chalk and cheese.

I began to investigate other Aussie forums to see if people were having similar problems with their 'Walbro' pumps and THEY WERE! The problem was effecting the Mitsubishi, Nissan, Subaru, Honda and Toyota community as well! The evidence was everywhere!! I couldnt in good conscience let it slide whilst people were buying this cheap crap from EBay and placing their cars and themselves at risk! Walbro also didnt deserve the fake Chinese copies dragging their name through the mud as a result of it either

:D Good stuff... have a look at the EBay link: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll ... %3AIT&rd=1 . It's good to see suppliers now identifying and advertising legitimate Walbro fuel pumps to the general public - mark it off as a win to the consumer for once

hi everyone
well it looks like our friends in china started to make them shinny and with metal gearing inside
the only way to know a fake one is by doing a flow test. Chinese pumps flow less than your std one

They can probably make them look the same, but lets hope they cant make them sound the same. Thats why the Youtube video is an awesome way of telling the difference :D

Reason why they get away with making copies of items is because in China money talks and political and economic corruption is a major problem. Its so hard to come across some good $$ when you work for 20 cents an hour too. The $50 you just got paid to look the other way probably just fed your family for a month. If you dont like your 20c an hour job then there's thousands of other people waiting in line to step on you to get it. In a country where there's many people and not enough jobs it means that there are plenty people willing to work for peanuts and make a quick buck in order to survive. I suppose you gotta do what you gotta do... however its up for us, the global consumers to stop buying crappy products and cease creating a market for them. As long as the Govt keeps allowing cheap poor quality imports into the country, there's always going to be $2 shops, Go-Lo and the like keeping the market alive. Just look at all the recalls on childrens toys that were made in China recently. Does this stuff go through quality control over here before it gets put onto the shelves or what?? people's lives are at risk!!

Where practicable compare price, product, performance and quality and if the Chinese product is considered value for money then buy it - there's plenty of good things made in China that are great quality and great value for money. Otherwise cheap shit usually ends up being "CHEAP SHIT" and thats when the little voice inside your brain reminds you yet again... "'You get what you pay for dumbass"

8) Thats great news Dion. It was Mik-e and I who filmed that video late one night and I put it up on Youtube.

The number of fakes being sold on EBay and through auto parts dealers has dropped considerably over the last couple of years to the point that the fakes have virtually been eliminated from the market :D Its a win for the consumer and a win for the modified car scene 8) Back in 2006 there would have been 20+ sellers of fake Walbro pumps on EBay, but nowadays they've all been weeded out of business and only a handful of genuine Walbro sellers are left. They're now all importing direct from the US and offering a 100% money back guarantee which is awesome to see!!

I just checked EBay and its nice to see the sellers UDDOG06 and TUFFCARPARTS supplying the Aussie market with genuine Walbro fuel pumps. They were fighting a losing battle back when the cheaper fakes were flooding the market undercutting genuine Walbro fuel pump prices  Instead of giving up, both boys pushed through like true champions :D
